EJA

EJA

Sonnet X

What means hath thou outwardly invested
That fortifies scorn born of virtue lost
In age to come let thy word be tested
For poets live in hearts as dreams be tossed

Let all bells toll as ancient rhyme replies
That clever delight in form and pleasure
Be thee reborn where sea’s meet blissful skies
Mourning thy warm embrace first love’s treasure

Now I stand ‘fore thee that life mended be
As a hero doth win the grace of Mars
Painted in loves divine idolatry
Heaven’s portrait of two made one in stars
I pray thee tell my heart n’er skip a beat

For true love soldiers on till next we meet.
