Dance Like Nobody’s Watching

“Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth.” -Mark Twain.

On the Dance Floor

Dancing can be pure release from all of life’s stressfulness and fear. The dance floor calls out my name and the music takes hold of my soul. The beat of the music stirs the heart and as the energy moves through my body out to my arms and legs, they begin taking on a life of their own. The breath that was once shallow and stilted is released from prison and freedom smells delicious. That sweetness engulfs my face with a smile and my eyes close in submission to the overpowering beat. So many directions to take on that dance floor, reaching high, bending low, looking out for some place to rock out. With each change of tempo the scenery evolves as the mind allows the legs to go even further in their limitless capacity. Beautiful sound, the warmth of the multicolored lights reaches my skin. Gentle beads of sweat begin to form on my forehead as my feet are hopping. My muscles stretch to extremes and my senses are like the Fourth of July, exploding everywhere. Lost in the reverie of each new rhythm paints a picture of my life story. I fill in the space between the notes and words as I kick my leg higher and higher and spin round and round. The night marches on and the hours fly. It is a bittersweet moment when the last song is over. The lights come up full white and my eyes squint. The texture of my skin is moist and the salt of my sweat I taste in the corner of my lips. It is time to leave till next we meet on the dance floor!
