EJA

Sonnet XXXIV

Upon the distant mist I think on thee

As the storms of past loves are agile held

For pure clouds form from tears in memory

Of rousing days of yore where souls did meld

Such limitlessness our refuge did find,

Where sand grains stood still and ecstasy reigned

And ah! Joy engulfing the sacred mind

That two hearts so discovered love ne’er feigned

Yet to cross such uncharted distance would

Before us reveal unanswered desire

Unsolicited, in that sorrow could

Be in such fashion unrequited fire

That not before this instance love retire

And bear the burden hence that brand me liar
