EJA

Sonnet LXXXI

Pensive the man that thinks in black and white;

For such depth of thought dips the shallow end,

And this display repeats till morning light,

Ne’er having thine own judgment to suspend.

For shallow waters do shallow man make,

As that which ne’er sees the light of the Sun

Happy as shadows of dim night o’ertake;

Returning henceforth that hath just begun.

When in the least find me forging color,

From varied shades to scented hues survey;

For sight unseen makes for much the poorer

Happy the soul that dreams of rainbow day;

And flick’ring pigments tis night explorer,

Thus, paint a bold world that doth restore her.
