EJA

EJA

Sonnet CXXVII

Thou beneath alluring canopy rare,

Hide not thine beauty from mine doting eye;

Behold such heavenly branches raw and bare,

Fill mine empty arms where thou once did lie.

For falsehoods seize the senses all men hide,

And cloaked in darkness deeply harbor love

As plain as day they boast and brag with pride,

Passing judgment upon this lonely dove.

Why doth the sky above so hollow seem;

When there’s no place for sun and moon to climb;

Where wind howls and rain doth cry and scream?

To fair blues it seems only but to dream;

And when to that I did much import deem,

I say farewell yet cling to rich ice-cream.
