EJA

EJA

Sonnet CLIV

Careful exquisiteness, why doth the rain
Cascade upon thy stormy presence hence?
Kindness unfailing suffer not this pain,
That deceit doth oblige such recompense.
Mine benevolence hath thee forsaken

Oh, love enchanting, drifting out to sea
Use well thy life force that hath been taken
And bring my fairest love back to me.

For selfless pleasure hath trod mountain high,
Crowning peaks deceiving the mind implored,
Where passions speak and raven’s hearts defy,
Such normalcy weighs upon that ignored?
Thy pristine vestal livery entomb’d art restored,
Which, evermore, holds thee close mine adored.
