EJA

EJA

Sonnet CXXXIX

Let humble bells ring out tolling skyward,

And match the cadence of mine drumming heart

For restless sorrows imprisoned inward

Flee as crackling embered flame doth depart

The old year passes as day turns to night

Where glimm’ring truth hath lost its noble face

And dreams denied t’will ne’er such stars ignite

Bearing witness and shadowed path erase.

Annals brimming with discord gnawing through

As sirens grasp doth fade and sever hate

For new day’s dawning with love bright and true

Lifts the grieved heart and dreadful pain abate

That soul’s contentment thrills uplifting fate

And hand in mine twill open passion’s gate.
