EJA

EJA

Sonnet CXLVIII

Ageless beauty thy legacy entombed

Where blissful nobility once did shine

Can’st thou give of thine ornament heirloom’d?

Or wilt death deny love’s flourishing vine?

Honeysuckle rose sing loudly and gay,

Tender bloom so fragrant and truly rare,

Fill up my senses with love come to play;

Pervade and consume my being if ye dare.

This bequest the sum of bold waves crashing

Upon a shore of torn and tattered dreams

Living not for the tide’s sharp teeth gnashing

So, I lay my head ‘neath calming moonbeams

Seeking such repair as earnestness deems

And devour thine splendor’s fullest extremes.
