EJA

Sonnet XXII

One act does not define a life discover’d

If thou believe thy well-cast role tis thine

When that lights thy bones and soul uncover’d

And shalt by critic’s pen thy world design

These brave bold scenes build as falls the fourth-wall

Roaring farce with the prompting of thine line

And mime thy silence doth eclipse this hall

Cue all humor and sadness intertwine

Echo thy voice, let flow the mirthy task

Arise and fly the scaffold set the rake

Tis thy noble duty to don the mask

For props be well in gallant hand ne’r break

Fable told unto ev’ry breath thee take

That time and again, life this play doth make.
